Jackson Oliver Costello

September 12, 2009 Leave a comment

It’s a boy!!!  Jackson Oliver Costello, our first child, was born today. Jo did a fantastic job today, and although neither of us has had much sleep in the last two days, she has definitely done a lot more work than me. Having been with her throughout the birth, I am so proud of what she did today. The labour went for about 12 hours, but by no means was it easy.

Jackson is fine, and his stats are:

Weight: 3.87Kg (8 Pound 9 Ounces)
Length: 50.5cm

Dad DVD’s

A friend of ours let us borrow a couple of DVD’s last week. They were the Being Dad DVD’s from www.beingdad.com.au. I’d highly recommend them for new dads.

Impending Fatherhood

August 24, 2009 Leave a comment

It’s August 24, 2009. My wife Jo has just passed 38 weeks pregnant with our first child (not counting the two dogs, the turtle and the kookaburra). I’ve been madly working around our house for the last few months trying to make sure I’ve got a bunch of big projects out of the way, so when the little bubs comes I can focus on him/her.

I’m not really nervous yet, I’m not a spring chicken anymore and I think (hope) I’m ready for the new addition to the family, but I’m sure when the contractions start I’ll be sh**ting myself a little. I’m still a little apprehensive at holding other peoples babies, so we’ll see how I go when it’s mine.

We’ve done all the baby classes, plenty of visits to the obstetrician, looking at books and movies, but I’m pretty sure they aren’t going to completely prepare me for what’s ahead. We’ll see I guess.
